Moor lane Office LED Lighting Upgrade
Moor lane Office LED Lighting Upgrade
The Challenge
The client required an upgrade to the existing office lighting system, including modifications to the existing ceiling grid and electrical wiring to facilitate the installation of new LED light fittings, sensors, and an improved lighting layout.
The project involved the removal of existing fluorescent lighting and the installation of a modern LED lighting system designed to improve energy efficiency while providing a brighter and more comfortable working environment for staff.
Key challenges included:
- Operational Continuity: Due to ongoing site operations, daytime access was restricted. The works were scheduled and delivered entirely out-of-hours to maintain operational continuity.
- Safety Compliance: The upgraded lighting system needed to comply with current emergency lighting regulations, ensuring clearly illuminated and fully compliant emergency escape routes.
- Energy Efficiency: Previous lighting required manual switching, increasing unnecessary energy use. The new LED system integrates sensor-controlled lighting, reducing energy consumption during daylight hours and periods of low occupancy.
Our Solution
The works were scheduled and completed over six consecutive weekends to reduce interruptions to weekday business activities. The existing
1200x600 light fittings were carefully removed and disposed of in accordance with regulations.
The existing ceiling grid was altered to facilitate the new lighting layout throughout the office area. Over 100 new 600x600 led panels were installed, improving light quality and efficiency across the workspace.
The lighting design was developed in collaboration with Bell Lighting, who also manufactured the installed fittings. Their technical input ensured compliant lux levels, optimal distribution, and an efficient layout tailored to the office environment.
The Technical Plan
- Hardware: 133 600 × 600 LED Ceiling Panels, control boxes, PIR occupancy sensors
- Removal: Existing 1200x600 fluorescent fittings
- Ceiling & Wiring Adjustments: Ceiling grid modifications and wiring adjustments to accommodate the new layout while maintaining structural integrity
- Safety & Compliance: Integration of emergency lighting to meet current regulations
Workforce
The project was delivered by a team of:
- 5 qualified electricians
- 1 electrical apprentice
Technical Execution
New lighting control boxes and PIRs were installed to provide automated lighting control, ensuring lights only operate when spaces are occupied and contributing to ongoing energy savings. Ceiling grid modifications were made to accommodate the new LED panel layout while maintaining structural integrity.
Wiring adjustments were done to integrate new lighting control boxes and PIR occupancy sensors for automated operation. As well as iIntegration of emergency lighting to comply with current safety standards and maintain clearly illuminated escape routes.
Upon completion, the office was fully cleaned ready for use the following Monday, all circuits were tested, commissioned, and verified prior to handover.
The Results
The project was completed and commissioned ahead of Monday morning operations, ensuring the office was fully operational without disruption. The client now has a modern, automated, and fully compliant LED lighting system.
- Enhanced Safety: Emergency and standard fittings now provide consistent illumination across the workspace, including clearly marked escape routes, fully meeting current emergency lighting regulations.
- Energy Efficiency: Automated PIR occupancy sensors and control boxes ensure lights only operate when spaces are occupied, reducing energy consumption and operational costs compared with the previous fluorescent system.
- Improved Workspace Environment: The new LED panels deliver a brighter, more evenly distributed light, improving visibility and creating a more comfortable working environment.
