Replacement of existing roller shutter door isolators
Replacement of existing roller shutter door isolators
The Challenge
The client was undertaking the installation of new roller shutter doors and required modifications to the existing electrical supply to accommodate the upgraded equipment. To align with the door installation schedule, the work needed to be completed in phases across several weekends.
Key challenges included:
- Operational Continuity: Completion of works outside normal operating hours to avoid disruption
- Safety Compliance: Integration of local isolators for safe maintenance and operation. Safe disconnection of the existing isolators supplying the current roller shutter doors. Supply and installation of new industrial 3-phase socket outlets to power the new doors.
- Infrastructure Coordination: Temporary removal and reinstatement of a CCTV camera positioned above the door, and reinstalled once new door installed.
Our Solution
A structured four weekend installation programme was implemented to ensure zero disruption to operations.
The technical plan
● Hardware: 32a 5 pin 400v socket outlets with isolator with isolator.
● Each phase focused on one roller shutter door circuit, allowing the existing isolator to
be safely disconnected and the new supply installed before the following stage of the
door installation
The execution phase focused on replacing the existing rotary isolators supplying the roller shutter door system and improving the overall power connection arrangement.
The existing isolators were safely isolated, removed, and replaced with new compliant units designed for durability in a commercial environment.
The power supply to the roller shutter doors was then reconfigured to run through newly installed industrial commando socket connections, providing a safer and more flexible solution for future servicing and maintenance.
Technical Execution
Works were completed over a single weekend.
- Installation of MCG Industrial 16A wall-mounted 5-pin commando sockets
Replacement of existing rotary isolators - Reconfiguration of power supply to improve accessibility and maintenance capability
Workforce
The installation was completed by two qualified electricians, allowing the work to be carried out efficiently while maintaining strict safety procedures.
The Results
The completed installation provides a reliable, fully compliant electrical supply for the new roller shutter doors, delivered with zero disruption to the client’s weekday operations while improving future serviceability.
- Safety: Compliant power supply for new equipment and improved isolation capability for maintenance or servicing.
- Future Compliance: Flexible industrial socket connection for servicing or replacement.
- Successful Project Integration: The electrical works were delivered in coordination with the roller shutter door installation programme, ensuring each stage was completed safely and on schedule.
